Let's Make a Gel Card

Hey Everyone.

This is an old technique - so old in fact I think we can call it retro. But it's fun and squishy so I thought I'd give it a go. Special thanks to Miss February and her water challenge for inspiring me to try this.

Here's what we're making:

And here's how you do it:

There is a tutorial at Splitcoast showing how to do this as a window, with your stamping inside the card:

LOOOOVVVVVEEEEEE IT! Ah yes, a Goddess are you. (That's my 'never-watched-Star-Wars-Yoda-impression' )

Just to be extra sure, I like put a little red-line tape in the top of the ziploc bag (above the seal) AND then fold it over once, with more red-line tape. I'm a little OCD like that. (hehe)

That would have been a SUPER idea - I need to be more OCD - but I used the last of my red line tape too. Next time I'll double fold and tape more.

How totally fabulous! Great tutorial and another great use of PurellĀ®. <---True confessions. I'm a PurellĀ® addict and have some in every room of the house and in my car and in my bag and in my gym bag. I even have some crafty uses for it too.

So, can you suspend micro-beads in the Purell?

Too fun and gorgeous too!

Crafty uses for Purell??? Like what?

We never used it much until I got so sick - now we have it everywhere.

I've seen people suspend shaped confetti (like stars) in the gel; but for me, I thought it distracted from the stamping as they would migrate in front of faces and such. I also worried about a wayward corner poking through the bag. Beads would be a lot safer and would make cute bubbles.

I don't think I've ever bought Purell... just good ol' handwashing for this girl. I've tried Purell here & there, but it makes my hands feel weird.

Nicole, try http://www.articusstudiodesign.com/id51.html for Terifically Tacky Tape - she sells 36 yard rolls in 1/4", 1/2" and 1" widths - and they are VERY inexpensive!!! (The 1/4" is $7.98 - compare that to a 5 yard roll for $5-ish!) She has very reasonable shipping rates, and ships quick. There is a lot of other funky stuff in her store, too - but I've only ever bought the tape. Highly recommended - especially the way I go through redline tape!

Just wanted to add:

It's $5-ish for the 1/4" tape (5 yd rolls) in the stores here - the chick at Articus sells the same for $2.99. (But still - that 36 yd roll is hard to pass up!) I think I use it on almost everything I do, and I've barely made a dent in my first roll from Articus... and because I'm sick (  like, hoarding-sick) I tend to buy a roll from her here & there (and promptly forget I've done so), just to be sure I'll not run out in the middle of a project!

Thanks, Stephanie.

I'll go check that out. I've always bought the sheets - so I could punch them out and add beads - but two 8x10 sheets are about five bucks. SPENDY!

This sounds so much better; I won't have to be so stingy with it.

Thank you for being so helpful, I really appreciate it.

We're Canadian too and I've noticed Canadians are more hand washers than Purell types. My kids are hand-washers too; but my hubby is a big Purell guy. He's a bit of a germophobe.

EDIT: Oh. My. Goodness. They have some super-cool stuff. I am loving the Stamper's Anonymous stamps - the game card one especially. Thanks so much for the link.
